Requirements
UKSH, a healthcare provider for the NHS, had won a contract to provide Independent Treatment Centres to carry out medical procedures to cut NHS waiting lists. In turn Yorkon Ltd won contracts to build centres for them using modular construction to maximise speed of completion enabling the opening of the centres as soon as possible. Our brief was to carry out the design and construction of the building’s foundations, drainage, services, associated car parks and external works for sites at Shepton Mallet, Emersons Green in Bristol and Devizes. Construction Using only the Planning Permission drawings, ground reports and foundation loading details provided by Yorkon Ltd we had to fully design foundations, drainage details, car parks and roads before works could commence on site. |
The foundations were designed and constructed using mass concrete padded strip foundations which were engineered to suit the specific ground conditions of each site. Drainage systems were devised and installed throughout each site using plastic pipes laid as necessary to meet the requirements of the new buildings. Car parks and roads were formed using macadam surfaces with standard concrete kerbs. The depths of the capping layers to the car park and roads were designed again to suit the specific conditions of each site. Throughout this project we were working with extremely tight timescales to complete foundations and all substructure works prior to the delivery of the modular buildings. All contracts were completed on time and to the satisfaction of our client.
