Requirements Our brief was to undertake extensive remedial works following a serious fire which had started within the stage area of the school’s main assembly hall causing significant damage to the roof of the building with many of the adjacent rooms, including the sixth form centre, affected by smoke. A decision was made by our client to take the opportunity during the necessary repair works on site to change the use of the building to incorporate two new dance studios, a soft play area and café. Construction Works commenced with a temporary roof covering being constructed to protect the damaged building from water ingress whilst roof repairs were undertaken. A bird cage scaffold was erected inside the building to enable the roof structure to be inspected for damage and following this the roof timbers were replaced as necessary. |
New steel portal frames were also installed as the original ones had deflected with the heat of the fire. Roof coverings were then fitted to make the structure watertight once again. Internally all fire damaged materials were removed and the smoke affected areas deep cleaned. Repair works were then undertaken as necessary incorporating the new layout and changes of use our client now required. New external doors and windows were installed and internal doors and frames replaced. Suspended ceilings were reinstated and a timber sprung floor was fitted to replace the old solid floors of the building. A new electrical installation was carried out and ventilation and heating alterations were also undertaken and lighting upgraded. Finally the building was redecorated throughout with new flooring laid to all communal areas, corridors and reception. The contract was completed to our client’s satisfaction and to our high standards of workmanship. Value £981,470 |
