Requirements
Our brief was to convert the first floor of the Stable Block to change its use to a single five bedroom residential flat with ensuite facilities, a large communal room, kitchen with dining facilities, and lounge space for residents. Our client also required a change of use to the existing Coach House to create volunteer facilities including an accessible WC and kitchenette. Construction Phase one of the project commenced with the existing fittings of the stable block being stripped out and debris removed from site. Floorboards were then lifted and set aside to allow electrical and mechanical services to be installed along with new rigid insulation before the boards were relaid. Walls and ceilings were battened, insulated and lined with plasterboard and new stud walls were formed. All walls were then finished with a skim coat of plaster. |
A central heating system was installed throughout the building along with a gas storage tank. An electrical installation was also carried out as designed by the Architect which used low energy lamps in all fittings. The drainage system was altered and new cast iron soil stacks were installed ready to take waste from the ensuite bathrooms. New sanitary ware was fitted along with fixtures and fittings and a new kitchen was installed with white goods supplied by our client. The building was decorated throughout and new vinyl flooring was laid to all bathrooms and kitchen area with carpet fitted to the remainder of the building. The second phase of the project then commenced with glass being removed from the glazed canopy of the Coach House and metal work repaired and repainted before the glass was refitted and new glass supplied to replace any broken or missing pieces. Internally new mechanical and electrical installations were carried out and the main doors into the building were completely overhauled and decorated. A new accessible WC was constructed and sanitary ware installed along with all fixtures and fittings to comply with the current regulations. A new kitchenette was then formed to service the needs of the volunteers working on site. The project was completed to the satisfaction of our client and to our high standards of workmanship.
