Requirements
Our brief was to convert and extend an existing nightclub into student accommodation within the constraints of a Listed Building. The site would be very difficult to access via a lane with a width of 1.70 metres so deliveries etc would need to be carefully planned. Construction The first phase of this project was to convert the existing building to suit our client’s requirements. Work commenced with existing fittings being removed and the building prepared for the necessary layout changes. Floor and wall repairs were undertaken and new partitions and ceilings formed. All necessary fire protection works were undertaken to ensure the safety of students living within the building. Mechanical and electrical services were installed throughout along with new incoming services. |
Sanitary facilities and new kitchens were fitted to serve the students needs and the building was fully redecorated and new floor coverings laid. Once the main building was completed work then commenced at the rear to create a five storey extension to give additional accommodation space. Rock anchors were installed to the rear bank to stabilise the ground upon which the extension would be built and piled foundations were formed. A steel frame was then erected and external walls built using a mixture of natural rubble stone, cedar cladding and aluminium ceramic wall panels. A single ply membrane roof was added and aluminium clad timber windows and doors fitted to make the extension watertight. Internally floors were formed using eco joists and the space divided using metal stud walls and linings. Acoustic flooring and ceilings were added throughout. Mechanical and electrical services were then installed along with new underfloor heating which was operated by air to water heat plumes. New kitchens and sanitary facilities were then formed including all necessary wall and floor tiling. The building was then fully decorated and flooring was fitted throughout. The project was completed to our high standards of workmanship and to the satisfaction of our client. Value £1,720,000 |
