Requirements
The existing school was split into two main buildings and our brief was to construct a single storey link to allow pupils and staff access to all areas of the school without the need to go outside. A new reception area would be created within the link and externally car parking facilities also required upgrading plus the creation of a bin store and access path. Construction Phase 1 of the contract commenced with the formation of a new car parking area and bin store. The new link building was then constructed using traditional methods. The main corridor was formed in two long ramps to overcome the difference in floor levels between the two buildings. The external walls were built in concrete and insulation blocks with the external façade finished using K Rend, a self coloured render in terracotta finish to offset the specified white aluminium powder coated windows and grey capping and soffite manufactured in powder coated steel. |
The structure was supported by a number of steel columns and beams and the roof was supported by timber joists covered using insulated panel monopitch roof sheets. The internal walls were then plastered and painted, a new suspended ceiling throughout allowed electrical trunking and other cables to be concealed above it. Floor finishes and internal fittings were then completed to the School’s requirements. The final stage of the contract was then completed during the School’s summer shutdown with the existing Reception being demolished and a new opening formed between the new link and existing building to allow fire doors and glazed screens to be installed.
The existing electrical trunking, fire alarm and intruder panel were altered and relocated and the new Reception wired for IT and Data. The front entrance doors were fitted with a new entry system that could be operated by key fob or a door release mechanism in the Reception Office only. Value £210,000 |
