Requirements
Following a number of roof leaks to one of the school buildings our brief was to re-roof this building and overhaul the rainwater system including re-insulating the roof to prevent heat loss. The works were to be undertaken during the six week summer holiday whilst the school was closed. Construction Careful consideration had to be given when arranging material and plant deliveries as the school is located alongside a busy main road with no parking or access areas. All materials and plant had to be lowered down over the school wall using our lorry mounted crane and debris had to be removed in the same way, avoiding peak rush hour times. The work area was securely fenced off and scaffold erected to gain access to the roof. All ridge and roof tiles were carefully set aside ready for reuse. The felt, batten, facia and barge boards were then removed and disposed of. The lead valleys were re-formed to give a larger surface area to cope better with the volume of water from the roof. New plastic facia and barge boards were fitted and a new layer of roof felt was laid and timber battens fixed ready to take the tiles. |
The salvaged roof tiles were then re-laid with any broken ones being replaced with reclaimed tiles to match. The ridge was then rebedded on a sand and cement mortar with again any broken tiles being replaced with matching reclaimed tiles. The bell tower on the roof was overhauled with timber repairs being carried out and decorations undertaken. Finally new black Upvc rainwater gutters and downpipes were fitted which completed the external works. Internally new insulation bags were installed above the existing suspended ceiling and any ceiling tiles damaged by water ingress were replaced as necessary. The project was completed on time, to a high standard of workmanship and to the satisfaction of our client. Value £43,672 < previous project |
