Requirements
Norton Hill School in Midsomer Norton is one of the areas largest secondary schools and our brief was to construct a new build extension to an existing building within the school campus to provide larger ICT facilities. This was to include four study rooms, disabled toilet and storage space which were needed to meet the demands of increasing pupil numbers. Construction The contract commenced with the formation of foundations and the erection of a steel frame with insitu concrete floors being added. Cavity walls were built with brick and render external finishes and a timber and tiled roof added along with a large section of aluminium curtain walling to one corner of the building which included the main entrance doors and windows. Openings into the adjoining building were knocked through with extra care taken when setting out in the early stages, making sure the finished floor levels met. Internally, works were undertaken to complete the building to the requirements of our client including the installation of work surfaces for IT, including dado trunking with power, data and phone sockets to each work station. An integrated wipe board and teacher training station with a link to each student computer was also fitted. |
A stainless steel and glass balustrade staircase was installed to give access to the upper floor which was in keeping with the architectural design of the building. Ash doors, linings and architraves were fitted throughout with stainless steel ironmongery and a suited lock system to match the existing.
An individual room, controlling air conditioning and the extraction system was formed along with the installation of a fully integrated fire and intruder alarm system. The building was decorated and carpeted throughout, paying close attention to quality of finish. On this particular job we were able to take a radical look at contract planning and achieved Practical Completion ten weeks ahead of schedule, to the satisfaction of our client and to a high standard of workmanship.
