Requirements
Our brief was to undertake the restoration and conservation of the Grade II Listed Manor House to restore the building to its former glory. A great emphasis was placed on careful programming due to various restrictions on site including the presence of bats within the roof space. Construction The 62 week contract commenced with new roof coverings being fitted in conjunction with the rebuilding of sections of several very large chimney stacks. Extensive stone conservation was undertaken with the majority of this work being concentrated around dressed stone window surrounds of which the metal casements were removed, restored and refitted with new leaded lights. Major alterations were then undertaken with the installation of a bridge leading from an adjacent bank into the second floor area of the house to provide a new access to enable the formation of a separate flat from the main dwelling. Internally all new mechanical, electrical, fire and intruder systems were installed. Bathrooms were remodelled with new stone flooring, tiling and sanitary ware. Extensive specialist restoration was undertaken of the oak panelling throughout the house and after timber repair works had been completed careful bleaching and finishing restored the panelling to its original form. |
The kitchen was relocated to another room within the
building and all new joinery, worktops, white goods, stone flooring and Aga were
fitted. A new Farm Office was
formed in one wing of the Manor which involved the installation of high quality
bespoke joinery.
Flues were relined to allow existing open fireplaces to operate correctly and to allow the installation of new wood burners where required. Cornice work was restored and a complete redecoration of the building was undertaken to suit our client’s requirements. External works commenced with the existing drainage system being re-routed and extended as necessary. Due to the installation of the new bridge a large bank was completely regraded and once new levels and contours were established a fast growing hard wearing grass seed was sprayed over the area as the steep gradient would not permit seeding in any other way. Finally a new driveway was formed edged with granite sets to enhance the newly restored building. The contract was completed to a very high standard of workmanship and to the satisfaction of our client. Value £2.1 million
