Requirements
A major refurbishment contract of Folly Farm was undertaken during 2007 as the site was transformed from an old working farm into a modern wildlife environmental centre. Our Joinery Workshop worked alongside the Contracts Manager, Site Foreman and Architects to provide all the joinery details required by the projects phased time schedule. Construction During the contract new windows were required to replace those which could not be salvaged and templates were taken on site of the arched window tops so that the stonework could be rebuilt to form the new heads which the windows, machined to match existing details, were fitted into. Refurbishment of windows which could be repaired was then undertaken to return them to their original state. |
Various stable and framed ledged and braced doors with traditional bead and butt boarding with large section frames were manufactured in keeping with the original features of the buildings. Modern insulation and weather seals were incorporated to improve their energy efficiency. Glazed door screens were also constructed to fit within the outbuildings large structural openings, clad with larch shiplap boarding which was also fitted in various locations to follow the Architect’s design throughout the site. Internally new softwood and oak staircases were manufactured and installed along with boarded doors, frames, skirtings and architraves to match the existing. New catering and reception desks were formed using oak, softwood and larch with marmoleum work surfaces and additional cupboard spaces were created to accommodate the centres requirements.
