FARMBOROUGH PRIMARY SCHOOL

Client: BANES Property Services
Main Contractor: Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd

Requirements

Our brief was to refurbish the Junior’s toilet facilities to create four individual unisex toilets to include an ambulant disabled toilet with new floor coverings to modernise the adjacent corridor.

The contract was to be undertaken during the six week summer holidays whilst the School was closed.

Construction

The work area was sealed off from the rest of the school to reduce the spread of dust whilst the works were undertaken.  The existing sanitaryware, cubicles, doors and frames were stripped out and disposed of.

Alterations were then undertaken to the existing drainage system to accommodate the new toilet and basin positions.  This involved excavating the floors, adapting the manhole and capping off the redundant pipes.

Two new structural openings were then created in the wall and one existing opening was enlarged to accommodate a wider door for the ambulant disabled cubicle.  New Ash door frames were manufactured in our Joinery Workshop and fitted on site which housed new Ash veneer doors with modern ironmongery.

Two meter high stud partitions were constructed to form the cubicles which allowed the existing Velux roof windows to flood the cubicles with natural daylight.

At the rear of each cubicle a service duct was installed to house all pipe work and toilet cisterns which were decorated using bright colours chosen by the school pupils.

Light fittings and extractor fans were then installed which are operated by a movement sensor so that the lights are not left on unnecessarily thus saving electricity.  The area was then decorated throughout using a washable paint with the lower section of walls being tiled for ease of cleaning.

The adjoining corridor had a new non slip safety flooring fitted throughout with the colour once again being chosen by the school children.

Mirrors and sanitary fittings were added to conclude the refurbishment works which were completed on time, to the satisfaction of our client.

Value: £24,000
