Requirements
Our brief was to carry out the internal restoration, repair and alterations to part of the Grade II* listed property which was designed in the late Victorian period in a French Renaissance and English Baroque style. We were working closely with the National Trust whom wished to restore the interiors to their former glory and open the building once again for visitors following its closure in 1996. Construction
The historic property contains many original features including tapestries, paintings, silk wallpapers and magnificent fireplaces and initial works included forming protections for these to ensure they were not damaged during the restoration project. |
The main contract was then undertaken with structural repairs to existing floors at ground and first floor level, works in connection with a new platform lift to enable disabled visitors to access all floors of the building, mechanical and electrical installations and a new external underground electrical supply with associated trenching and ducts. Provisions for fire prevention and management measures were also installed throughout.
Once the main building works were completed the specialist conservation of the fine interiors of the rooms were undertaken including lime plaster repairs, silk textile restoration, timber panelling repairs, vaulted timber ceiling repairs, cleaning and re-polishing, and the reinstatement of traditional paint schemes. We successfully completed this project on time, to the satisfaction of our client and to a high standard of workmanship which such a project demanded. Value £880,000 |
