Requirements
Due to expansion our brief was to construct a new building within the grounds of the school to create an assembly hall and kitchen, six new classrooms, administration offices and new toilet facilities. Also included within this project was restoration of the existing victorian school building and installation of a special needs unit to meet the requirements of our client. Construction The new building was to be constructed during the school term so a great emphasis on safety was implemented to ensure staff and pupils were safe during the build period with minimum disruption to the school day. Works commenced with foundations being dug to support the external walls which were formed in cavity blockwork with stone dressings and rendered panels. Internal walls were created with fair face blockwork then decorated. The main roof was installed using trusses and a tiled covering. |
The roof to the assembly hall was supported off steel columns and trusses, tiled to match. Windows and doors were added to make the building watertight along with a rainwater system. Internal works then commenced with mechanical, electrical and heating systems being installed. Decorations were carried out and floor finishes added. The classrooms were fitted out to our client’s requirements ready for teaching. A new kitchen was installed to suit our client’s needs, the administration offices were completed and new toilet facilities added. On completion of the building the old timber classroom blocks were removed and new play areas created. A link corridor was constructed to join the new building to the existing school and renovation works were also carried out as required. A special needs unit was created to complete this project to the satisfaction of our client and to our high standard of workmanship. Value £1.1 million
