Requirements
To ensure the stability and carryout repairs of a natural stone retaining wall by rebuilding/repointing decayed sections, and installing duckbill ground anchors to provide lateral restraint.
M.A Howard Associates established the most efficient cost-effective design to avoid disruption of the access road and the avoidance of a major civil engineering contract.
Ken Biggs Contractors Ltd were engaged as an experienced contractor of this type of work to carry out this contract in its entirety.
Installation
A level access road was excavated 3 metres from the wall to establish a safe working platform for the mobile access lift. Anchor access pockets were formed in the wall as indicated by the Engineer and MR-2 stainless steel Duckbill ground anchors were driven through metal plates and into the embankment to a depth of 5 to 6 metres with a 5 tonne 360 slew excavator. They were then proof loaded to a minimum of 60 KN and set to a working load of 40 KN.
